The Trute!

truth-consequences-500Two Fools on the Road to Emmaus Podcast - Continuing where they left off last week, the guys explore the ways we can connect with God, and advocate a marriage of knowledge and experience, rather than discarding one for the other.  As well, they examine the enlightenment and how it affects our relationships with God.

Austerity Gospel

Posted by MIKE under Podcast

Dashing theough the doughTwo Fools on the Road to Emmaus Podcast – A new fad is emerging in North American Evangelical circles being labeled “The Austerity Gospel”.  Taking a fundamentally different approach from the Prosperity Gospel, Austerity adherents preach a simple, frugal life free from debt.  This gets Mike and Mark onto the money issue once again, but this time they veer off the well-worn path and begin discussing how fear is a major component of the Christian economy.  What does it say about North American Christianity that the biggest, richest ministries, are often the ones with the most terrifying rhetoric?

Rose Coloured, Stained Glass Windows PT. 2

3dglassesTwo Fools on the Road to Emmaus Podcast -   If we want to embrace a Kingdom worldview it seems necessary to allow scripture (in context) to shape our worldview, but often times we use scripture (out of context) to affirm our own worldview / agenda and call it Kingdom, with unhealthy results.  The guys challenge themselves to trust Jesus and allow the radical and subversive message of the Kingdom to shape the way they see the world, others and Jesus.

The challenge is we all have a worldview, the way we have learned to see the world and make sense of what happens in it and to us.  We all have them but they are all to some degree inaccurate.  This doesn’t mean they are necessarily bad, just not always complete.  The problem comes when a) we are oblivious to the fact we indeed we have a particular worldview and it has some effect on our perception of reality, b) when we are so firm in our worldview we are closed to new information or another point of view, c) we in our arrogance impose our worldview indiscriminately on others.

Mark and Michael finish the two part series on worldview.

Rose Colored, Stained Glass Windows Pt. 1

tunnelvisionTwo Fools on the Road to Emmaus Podcast -  Looking through rose-colored glasses, and seeing through a glass darkly are phrases which culturally describe a condition where we admit that perhaps we see things in biased and maybe not completely accurate ways.  This doesn’t imply the absence of absolute truth, but rather challenges our ability to know it absolutely.

In Jesus Name?

Posted by MIKE under Podcast

Eden Next Right signTwo Fools on the Road to Emmaus Podcast -  It’s not that hard to take that which we want to do and “stamp it” with “In Jesus name” and think it somehow justifies our actions.  Furthermore, it seems to imply that everything we do in Jesus name is in fact Jesus’ will.   This has been used throughout history to justify a great number of atrocities and is still being used today in significant and subtle ways.

The guys aren’t so sure this is all that healthy and they wrestle with the implications of such thinking, which inevitably leads the guys back to their central theme: Jesus and relationship with Him and others in healthy, life giving ways.
