My son and the amazing Spiderman

My son and I were talking the other day.   We were pontificating about many of the questions that have perplexed mankind throughout the centuries.   Our discussion culminated with my son asking... “Dad,  how come Peter Parker was afraid of heights before he became Spiderman and now as Spiderman, he isn't?   He's climbing and swinging around and over huge buildings.”

What a great question!  We talked about it some more discussing the fact that Spiderman can climb walls, shoot and spin web to swing to and from skyscrapers and has super strength.  I  asked "Would you still be afraid of heights if you could do the same?"  "I'm not sure" he replied.  So I asked him what scares him most about heights to which he replied "Falling."  "Would you still be afraid even if you could shoot a web and swing free or build a web to catch yourself? Even if you were a clumsy Spiderman,  you could still survive most falls and walk away!"   It was then that we could understand why Peter Parker was not afraid of heights.

Satisfied that another of the great mysteries had been solved my son went about his business.  As I watched him go about his business, I felt the Lord speak to me. “Michael,  what are the obstacles of living life fully?”  To which I replied  “Well... I am afraid of falling, of failing, of being hurt and rejected.”  He seemed to smile and said “Mike, if you knew that when you fell it was never fatal and if you knew that when you failed it was never an indication of your worth and you won't find rejection or when you get hurt, you can be restored.  This is the nature of my love. What if you knew how much I really love you?  How then would you live? Would you live any differently?”
I knew where this was going.  I replied” I suspect I would live very differently.”
